Are you looking for a video you have already watched on TikTok but don’t know where or how to find it? Well, you are not alone. It happens all the time; videos get lost in TikTok. But the good news is that you can find those lost videos; TikTok ain’t a black hole. In fact, there are several ways to find TikTok watch history, and we’re here to tell you about them. Keep reading!
How To View Your TikTok Watch History
TikTok doesn’t have a “Watch History” button like other social apps. However, there is a way to access your history. You can request your data file from TikTok. This file contains information related to your TikTok account, such as your bio, comment history, followers list, login history, likes list, settings, etc. It also contains a list of videos you’ve watched, i.e., the “Video Browsing History” list.
Here’s how to request your TikTok data file to view your watch history:
Method 1: By Requesting Your Data
This is a more complicated way of finding the TikTok videos you’ve already watched.
If you’re willing to go through the hassle, then this is the way to go. In the end, you will be rewarded with everything associated with your account, like your profile details, activity, and app settings.
Go to Profile. Then tap the 3-line icon in the top right and navigate to Privacy as shown in the screenshot below.
Under Personalize and data section, you will find Download your data option; tap on it.
Now, choose either a TXT file or a JSON file.
Tap Request Data at the bottom.
Once your request has been approved (it will not take any more than 4 days), you will be able to download your data.
In that downloaded ZIP folder, you can find your watch history in a file called Video Browsing History.
Method 2: Using the Search Bar
This is the most straightforward way to find the TikTok videos you’ve already watched. You can use this method to find videos on TikTok when you accidentally refreshed your feed.
All you have to do is open the TikTok app on your phone and follow the instructions below:
- Head to the Discover tab.
- Press the Search icon in the top-right corner.
- Type in an asterisk symbol ‘*’ and press Search.
- Tap the Filters icon on the search bar’s right-hand side.
- Toggle on Watched Videos and press Apply.
- The asterisk means that it will find and list all the videos you have watched within the last seven days.
This way you can find a TikTok video you watched but didn’t like. You can also type in a specific query to find videos that match your keyword or key phrase in your watch history. It will save you some scrolling.
How To Find a Video You Commented On
Unfortunately, TikTok doesn’t have an activity feature like Facebook, so you can’t go straight to a previously commented video. However, there are still ways to track that video (aside from the methods above).
When commenting on someone’s TikTok video, others will likely see the comment and like it or respond to it. Fortunately, when they do, you’ll receive a notification. If you tap on the message icon at the bottom of the TikTok app, you can tap on the video to the right.
However, if you didn’t receive a notification, there isn’t a direct way to go back to that video. You’ll either need to use the Discover feature to search for it, go to the profile of the person who posted it, or follow the instructions above to sift through your watch history.
How To Find Videos That You Want to Watch Again Easily
TikTok gives users many methods of rewatching videos later on. Still, you have to take deliberate action to retrieve your videos in the future easily. If you accidentally refresh your TikTok feed, you likely won’t have the option to perform any of these actions.
TikTok users can easily find any videos they’ve liked by visiting their profile pages, tapping the heart icon, and scrolling through the list to see the video they’re interested in watching again or continuing to watch.
Another option to easily retrieve videos is using the Favorites function. The liked videos folder can become overwhelmingly full, making it difficult to find a favorite. Fortunately, users can tap the Share icon on the video and add it to their favorites.
Your profile page is where you can watch your favorite videos, hear sounds, and view hashtags. Tap the flag icon located to the right of the Edit Profile option to find the favorites folder.
Lastly, users can download another person’s video by tapping on the Share icon. Do beware; the original creator may have this function turned off, so it may not work all of the time.
Now that you’ve learned how to view your TikTok watch history, you will never lose your favorite TikTok videos again. Share this blog post with your friends so they don’t lose videos from their favorite TikTok accounts too.
